UNN attack: Enugu State Govt gives detailed account

• Enugu State Government has reacted to report of UNN attack

There’s no imminent attacks coming on the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Enugu State Government assured residents.
Recall that a post, which has since gone viral, suggested that the Nigeria’s foremost university was on the verge of being attacked by bandits. It has dominated social media spaces as many, especially those living within the school and its environs, expressed deep concerns.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, dispelled the rumour. He urged residents anywhere in the state to go about their normal daily businesses.

The State Government knows it was the handiwork of mischief makers, Agbo said, and efforts are being made to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The government wishes to state unequivocally that this is a false alarm orchestrated by some dislodged criminal elements and their enablers to spread fear among the populace and undermine the government’s efforts to protect lives and property,” he continued.

Similar alarms were raised in the recent past concerning Holy Ghost area, Obollo Afor, Opi, Nsukka, Gariki, Awgu, and several other locations across the state. But they were later found to be false and unfounded.

Those behind the propaganda are not very good in their crafts. All their acts are almost uniform and follow the same patterns. Usually, they recycled old videos clips of attacks and presented them as present incident, all the time hiding under “anonymous”.

But the State Government is looking for them, the commissioner said in the statement, added that Governor Peter Mbah’s administration continues to prioritise the security of lives and properties.

New waves of insecurity is sweeping across Nigeria, with South-West taking much more heat in recent times.
