Mpu Massacre: Is revenge coming? Engr Edeh, Igwe Cletus reacts
In a powerful demonstration of responsive leadership and deep-seated empathy, the Member representing Aninri State Constituency at the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Magnus Ede, today made a high-profile condolence visit to Mpu community.
The visit comes on the heels of the recent tragic border crisis between the people of Mpu and Ishiagu community of Ivo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, which tragically claimed a life and left several others hospitalized.
Arriving with a message of solidarity, hope, and unwavering resolve, Dr. Magnus Ede first visited the immediate family of the murdered victim. Overwhelmed with emotion, the lawmaker condoled with the grieving family, condemning the unprovoked violence and promising that their painful sacrifice would not be in vain. He assured them that as their voice in the parliament, he will exhaust all legislative and diplomatic channels to ensure justice is served and the perpetrators are held accountable.
Proceeding to the palace of the traditional ruler of community, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Cletus Udechukwu, Dr. Ede met with the monarch, the cabinet, and key traditional leaders of the community. He lauded the community’s restraint in the face of provocation and re-emphasized his absolute commitment to protecting the territorial integrity and lives of Aninri constituents.
In response, the Royal Father, Igwe Cletus Udechukwu, speaking on behalf of the traditional council and the entire Mpu community, expressed profound gratitude to the lawmaker. The monarch noted that Dr. Ede’s prompt presence on the ground at a time when the community is bleeding is a testament to his sterling character and true leadership.
The traditional leaders and youth representatives thanked the House Member for his support toward the victims and the bereaved family.
They declared that his visit has injected fresh hope into the community, solidifying their trust in his representation and his ability to champion Mpu’s cause at the highest levels of governance.
Engr. Dr. Ede concluded the visit by calling on both the Enugu and Ebonyi State Governments to immediately convene a joint boundary committee to permanently resolve the lingering border dispute, warning that the blood of the innocent must never be spilled again on ancestral lands.
