The Kwankwasiyya Movement has warned it could be provoked to take the laws into its hands and fight back. The group, which is identified with the vice-president presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, has been at loggerheads with Kano State Government.

In a statement by its spokesperson yesterday, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, Kwankwasiyya Movement reacted to Amnesty International reports on alleged arrests, detention and harassment of critics of the Kano State government.

Before the international rights group made the report, Kwankwasiyya said it has made several observations in the past. It accused Kano State Government of repression, added that many of Kwankwaso’s supporters were allegedly in police detention for no particular reasons.

One Abba Ibrahim Kofar Nasarawa, popularly known as Aiha K Nass, was said to have a unique case.

According Kwankwasiyya Movement, Aiha K Nass has been arrested, charge to Shari’a court and dumped in police detention. He has not be able to meet the stringent bail conditions which the group believed were part of deliberate plan to keep the man in custody.

“The initial bail application was refused but was later granted under stringent conditions, including a requirement to provide two serving permanent secretaries and a Kano State Government employee as sureties”, the group said.

It also said that it had petitioned Chief Judge of Kano State and the Kano State Judicial Service Commission over the conduct of Sharia Court, Ungogo Division.
