Peter Obi drags Kenneth Okonkwo to court over “defamatory comments” on TV

The presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr Peter Obi has sued Kenneth Okonkwo.

The suit was signed by Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN, of Alex Ejesieme (SAN) & Co. (Madiba Chambers) who is representing Obi.

Recall that Kenneth Okonkwo, former Peter Obi’s die-hard loyalist, has turned against his former principal. For long, the Nollywood actor-turned-politician has gone on live television to de-market Obi as much as he could. But thing took a little twist yesterday morning when Okonkwo alleged that Obi and others received a bribe of ₦10 million from House of Representatives aspirants.

The actor also alleged that Peter Obi did travel abroad to “siphon” money from people, and that Obi personally compiled the list of the NDC candidates from his hotel room at the Johnwood Hotel. He also called the former Anambra State governor “a political con man,” saying that he defrauded the party.

However, Obi’s legal team said these claims are false. The law firm demanded immediate withdrawal and public apology to Peter Obi.

Kenneth Okonkwo has since switched allegiance to the presidential candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. And having successfully drawn Peter Obi into a possible legal battle, Okonkwo may have gotten what he appears to be looking for: attention to Atiku’s ADC ticket.
