Presidency kicks as ADC will continue its National Convention as planned

The Presidency has reacted to the African Democratic Congress (ADC’s) defiance to hold its national convention as planned despite INEC pressures.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, is criticising the rising opposition party for disregard of legality.

“Just continue your illegality, the lawless ADC. The dog that wants to get lost in the forest will ignore the hunter’s whistle”, Onanuga said.

Recall that INEC stripped ADC of its leadership days ago, said it wouldn’t recognise the party’s activities pending court rulings. It was a trap meant to delay ADC and made it to miss schedules in the coming elections. And it means ADC is essentially been deregistered.

ADC’s spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi said in X that the national convention would continue.

“This is to notify all members of the ADC that despite the illegal actions of @inecnigeria, the ADC congresses will continue as follows,” he wrote.

Remove ADC from ballots – APC pressures INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is under pressure to crush ADC.

Speaking on Arise Television yesterday, Ajibola Basiru urged INEC to deregister the only viable opposition party in race of 2027 elections.

The National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress gave his reason. According to him, ADC is not a viable political party.

“We’re calling on INEC to deregister the ADC. We don’t want the ballot papers to be clustered with unviable political parties”, Basiru said on open air.

African Democratic Congress is facing internal crisis which many analysts have said is engineered. Days ago, INEC took a very shameful step and stripped the party of its leadership – giving excuses without points.

Meanwhile, the opposition party is defiant, insisting it’s scheduled national convention would proceed as planned.

Calling ADC a “coalition of confusion” Basiru said the party lacked “thresholds of electoral sensibility”.

“That was the basis of our calling the attention of INEC to deregister the ADC. And I’m comforted by the fact that there are even cases in court. Personally to say that such party should be deregistered. INEC should exercise its power”, APC said.

“APC is satanic and wicked”, Dino Melaye blasts APC over ADC crisis

Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, speaks what is on the minds of most Nigerians.

In a statement on his X handle, he blasted the All Progressives Congress as “satanic and wicked”. His outburst followed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop recognising factions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

INEC has announced it removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of AD. It also said it would not recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is seeking to be declared national chairman through the courts. In fact, the electoral umpire stated it would not monitor the ADC congresses and convention until the courts’ final rulings on the pending matters.

In his reaction, Dino Melaye accused APC of being behind the deepening ADC crisis and of attempting to make Nigeria a One-Party country. But opposition figures would resist that, he maintained.

“The movement of Kwankwaso AND others will reveal the nefarious, satanic and wicked characteristics of APC. They will do everything to turn Nigeria to a one party state but we no go gree. All die na die,” the former senator said.
