A troubling trend is emerging in Ebonyi State following the controversial charge by the state Governor Francis Nwifuru on the newly elected council chairmen.

While inaugurating the 13 council chairmen yesterday, Governor Nwifuru made it clear that any chairman who failed to win his council area for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 elections would be replaced by a councillor. Minutes after that, chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area Eze Paul Ituma, said the worst, practically declaring war on the opposition.

“Anybody who’s fighting the governor of Ebonyi State is my enemy from today and will be treated like enemy. If you’re not of APC stock, do not come close to us,” Ituma said.

According to him, politics was his own only business and he vowed to pay even blind allegiance to APC. He firmly defined any person who was not a member of APC as an enemy who “shouldn’t come around Ohaukwu LGA because Ohaukwu is cordoned off and anybody who tries to do that will be declared persona non grata”.

“And we’ll not for any reason… This is the time for politics. I don’t have shop at the International Market or Okwo Ngbo Market; my shop is politics. Anyone who wants to put sand in my garri should not come close to Ohaukwu,” Ituma said.

For sure, the spirit of sportsmanship is taken away from Ebonyi State politics as the governor’s speech now radicalised critical stakeholders who must be armed with money and all forces to deliver to the governor’s order.
