Former Vice-president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said he would stepped aside for Peter Obi if Obi wins ADC presidential ticket.

He spoke during an interview in Arise TV yesterday evening. The interviewer asked Atiku if he would step aside should another aspirant wins the ticket.

“Yes, I will step aside for any winner,” the former Vice-president answered.

But the interviewer went deeper, pointedly ask Atiku if “any winner includes Peter Obi”. Again, the PDP presidential candidate for 2023 election affirmed his resolve, said of course he would step aside for Obi if such circumstance arise.

“What is difficult there? It is democracy. It is either you go through consensus or you go through election. You emerge through consensus or emerge through the electoral process”, he added.

Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi ran as President and Vice-president of the Peoples Democratic Party respectively in 2019. They lost to former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In 2023, two of them ran for presidency under different platforms, and lost again.

Having now pinched their tents with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) the two leaders are widely seen as frontrunners. Obviously, they can’t run on the same ticket as they did in 2019. But would Atiku Abubakar not try to snatch the ADC presidential ticket using a lot of money?
