Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku, the current chairman, has completed his first term to the “great satisfaction” of the governor, according to sources privy to the situation. Although the primary elections hold later today across the 10 wards, there are indications that the young chairman would win again.

Traditionally, in Enugu State, governor’s opinions are final in council politics, and his endorsement is usually a win for whosoever receives it.

In a media chat with the chairman, he told InfoWars that he is appreciative for “God’s mercy, and for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s” decision to return him a second time.

The governor quite shocked Aninri public in 2024 when Nwanjoku’s name came out as Governor Mbah’s chairmanship candidate for the council. That was the first time the voices of the so-called Aninri power brokers didn’t matter in choosing a chairman.

Many had attributed the surprising rise to luck. But that’s not luck, Hon Nicholas Ekpete, a close ally to the chairman, said.

“I’ve watched him (Prince Nwanjoku) firsthand think, plan and work. He is a great planner and an excellent strategist,” Ekpete said.

If the decision to make the chairman were to be with the stakeholders in 2024, Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku wouldn’t certainly be chosen. Barely a month into his administration opposition had mounted, grew to series of media attacks before escalated to near civil unrest including sponsored protests at the Government House.

But again, all these efforts come to zero. Like the first one, Mbah “anointed” him for reelection without any significant input from the ‘kingmakers’.

Nwanjoku’s ability to bypass the traps of his clannish-minded Aninri brothers, to deaden the jealousy of his opponents, and to subdue greed of cabals is a rare one. As he sets to fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) once again as a chairman, later today, Nwanjoku wouldn’t only be winning against many odds, but he would also have secured a higher place that would inspire upcoming politicians to believe in themselves.
