NDC, PDP, ADC, other parties endorse APC candidates in Enugu

The opposition parties in Enugu State have made u-turn and endorsed the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The endorsement, which they gave today, is coming days after most political parties have concluded their primary elections and fielded their candidates for various positions for 2027. In a meeting held at Royal Palace Hotel in Enugu, some of the parties which participated included the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Peoples Democratic Party (APC), the African Democratic Congress (APC).

“Governor Peter Mbah is our son,” the Enugu State acting secretary of PDP, Barr Peter Ajah, said at the meeting.

“Mbah is doing very well. And all the things he has asked us to do that we’ll do,” Ajah continued, listing some APC candidates the governor himself has already endorsed for 2027 elections.

Speaking during the forum, the chairman of ADC in Aninri council area, Mr Stephen Chibuike Mbah, said his party would “wholeheartedly” work with APC from “top to bottom” in 2027 elections.

Two weeks ago, Governor Mbah returned all the “effective” council chairmen, including Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku of Aninri local government area. He also returned 16 out of the 24 members of the state 10th House of Assembly, replacing 8 of them.

Recall that Governor Peter Mbah defected to APC late last year, alongside other political heavyweights in Enugu State.

Although some mushroom political parties are fielding candidates for various positions ahead of 2027, Enugu is not yet ripe for opposition politics.

Today’s open endorsement of candidates of the ruling APC in Enugu is the latest boost towards almost certain enthronement of the once most hated party in Igboland. APC is the darling of the East, of which Enugu is the centre.
