For months the handheld gaming computer developed by Valve Corporation has been out of the market. It was – and is still – loved a lot by many game enthusiasts. So when it was out of stock, Steam Deck’s absence in the stores hurt millions.

Today, it’s back again on the retailers’ shelves. But it has returned with a lot of discomfort for game lovers: Valve has raised Steam Deck price by more than $200.
The 512GB version, which cost $549 before, is now sold at $789. This is one of the sharpest rise in price in game industry, caused principally by the renewed AI arms race that is driving up memory costs.
It’s known that inflation affects the pockets of millions. According to market analysts, Steam Deck new price owe almost nothing to inflation.
There is no change at all in the handheld device when it returned to stock, the company said. It was the “shortage of RAM caused by AI datacenters using an obscene amount of it,” according to the statement by the company.
