Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, is playing with people’s feelings. Weeks after Nigerians bashed First Lady Remi Tinubu for encouraging them to go into akara business, Eno is making another annoying statement.

Speaking at the September edition of the state’s monthly covenant prayer service, the governor said he used to make monthly profit of about ₦10 million from selling akara and bread. That was before he joined politics, according to him.
The revelation has since sparked interest, with many questioning whether Nigerian politicians really believe that the rest of the people were dummies. It’s noteworthy that Governor Eno didn’t mention the period he was doing the business. Neither did he mentioned a particular place his shop was located.
“We still have that shop there. I started selling akara and bread. Back then, I was doing Akara Burger. We open the bread and put it inside for you. People going to Exxon Mobil will buy it in the morning, take coffee,” he said.
So far no one has acknowledged knowing the period Eno was running the akara and bread business to make his millions. Yet, the business was so successful that it was very popular and served great number of customers who brought in the ₦10-million-naira monthly profit.
Governor Eno said: “We started coffee shop and then they will take it. Every month, that Akara business used to give me nothing less than ₦10 million in a month,”
Remi Tinubu said it. Now, Governor Eno. This likely deception is coming at a time when millions of ordinary Nigerians have to, daily, come face-to-face with hunger and hardships, and when even wealthy multinational corporations are leaving Nigeria in droves due uncontrollable economic pressures.
