Son of Minister for Works, Osborn Nweze Umahi, has won the chairmanship of Ohaozara local government area in Ebonyi state. Umahi (Jnr), who ran under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), would probably be breaking record as the youngest council chairman in the state at 28.
During campaigns he positioned himself as representative of the younger generation of politicians. Upon his victory, Umahi (Jnr) promised he would not be taking salary or allowances throughout his tenure in office as his intention was never for personal gains but to improve the fortunes of the council area.
He would be the second generation of Umahi family to play in mainstream, and he really has started out strong. His father, Dave Umahi have been an active politician since 2009.
A native of Umunaga, Uburu in Ohaozara council area, Umahi (Snr) started out as the Ebonyi State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) (2009-2011). Between 2011 and 2015 he served as Deputy Governor of the state before leading the state as governor (2015-2023). After the 2023 elections President Bola Tinubu appointed Umahi (Snr) Minister for Works.
The victory of Osborn Umahi at the polls is widely believed to be an extension of the greatness of Umahi family in Ebonyi state politics.
