Davido is a big name. As far as Nigeria is concerned he has nothing to worry about – with his family name going with him. As it was expected, the government of Edo state has issued a disclaimer about banning the singer from entering the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, yesterday, issued press release to disassociate the state from the “spiteful behaviour”, referring to rumour swirling online that Edo State government has banned Davido.
Afegbua said those proclaiming the ban must be the enemies of the Edo.
“Our enemies are at it again; we did not ban Davido from entering Edo State. The proclaimer of that ban is an enemy of Edo State; an impostor, and a fraud.
“The Government of Edo State hereby dissociates itself from such spiteful behaviour, and wishes to state further that Edo State is home to all, regardless of their belief, political persuasion, affinity and or legal affiliation.
“As a matter of fact, should Davido intend to perform in Edo State in future, the state will be willing to collaborate and partner with him,” the statement read.
Davido clashed with Governor Monday Okpebholo during campaigns in the recently concluded Osun State governorship election. While campaigning for the APC candidate, Okpebholo who is also a member of APC attacked Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke. Davido reacted by publishing Okpebholo’s extremely unimpressive WAEC result online.
The governor’s aides and supporters have kept threatening Davido while the Afrobeat singer insisted he had no reason to apologise for publishing Okpebholo’s WAEC result.
The state sponsored rebuttal is the latest in the development that’s already one of the hottest updates on the internet in last days. Apart from his mother coming from Edo state, Davido is an illustrious offspring in one of the greatest family in Yoruba today. To ban him from performing in Edo would have come with a lot of cost for Governor Okpebholo or for any other person who’s involved.
