There is mounting strings of evidence that Aninri is at peace this time. For the first time in recent memory, a serving member of state House of Assembly is genuinely calling on both his kinsmen and people to support a council chairman’s reelection – under no compulsion.

In a short circular from his media office, the member representing Aninri in the State Assembly, Hon Magnus Ede, called on the “friends, family and fellow constituents” to support the reelection of Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku. The call is coming just days after Nwanjoku has formally flagged off his campaign for chairmanship of the council.

“It is to the overall interest of Aninri people that we support the good work to continue.

“Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku has shown enormous capacity in leadership. In no short time he has so transformed our council that those who experienced the zone only three years back would be lost in Aninri today.

“Frankly, this is not another campaign rhetoric. It’s a call for genuine inspection of our values, of our sons, of our collective future. I’m proud of my chairman. Therefore, I call on my friends, family and fellow constituents to rally around a good work to ensure we have a triumphant APC outings in the coming council polls”, the statement read.

The rise of Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku stunned both critics and friends alike when, all of a sudden, Governor Peter Mbah ‘anointed’ him the PDP chairmanship candidate in 2024. His election defied a lot of odds, clearly bypassing envious schemes of older stakeholders and the clannish interests of several segments of Aninri population.

He won handsomely in the polls. But he was faced with yet bigger hurdles. Earlier this year, bunch of disgruntled elements, backed by self-acclaimed political moneybags, took dirty campaigns to Governor Peter Mbah in the Lion Building.

Again, Prince Nwanjoku defeated them and secured the governor’s endorsement to return a second time as Aninri chairman.
