Hon chief Emmanuel Obasi is the SA on Works and infrastructure to the chairman of Aninri local government area. A native Obeagu Oduma community in the council area, Chief Obasi – who is fondly called Aguiyi Aninri – is one of the chairman’s right-hand man. Today, he speaks on the achievements of the council boss, Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku, who was sworn in on September 30, 2024. Below is the summary of Chief Obasi’s thoughts on the council chairman.
Aninri is one of the remotest areas in Enugu State, with its boundaries meeting Ebonyi State’s Ishiagu and Akaeze communities in the east and Uburu natives in the North. Although rich in fertile soil and lucky to have produced well-meaning politicians, its people had suffered near-total neglect. There was no light. And no roads.
One by one, successive local administrations had passed, each gliding away monotonously but leaving no impact. So at the time when the world – even the neighbouring towns in other areas – was gravitating towards solar energy, Oduma, Mpu, Okpanku, Ndeaboh and Nenwe had relied on the blinkering locally-made candle like their forefathers in the stone age.
That was the point when Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku came in, Chief Obasi said.
“We expected the same problem as before,” Chief Obasi began. “But we were disappointed as this young man took it upon himself and initiated the largest transformation we only see happening in the mega cities”.
“For the first time we see that a chairman of Aninri local government area could not owe the civil servants posted inside our communities,” he said.
The SA on Works further said that Prince Nwanjoku employed over 7,000 new workers – some as aides and others as auxiliary nurses and teachers to supplement the increasingly insufficient workforce posted by the State Government.
“And he didn’t just employ these people on the papers like so many of his predecessors did. He pay them. He pay us, not skipping anyone or any month,” Obasi continued.
InfoWars reported that Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku marked and graded 167 rural roads, electrified the entire zone, in addition to maintaining thousands of workers and aides in his payroll. His administration has also wrested Aninri from hands of hoodlums, stopped local vandals and completely stamped out the vagaries of the dreaded 2-by-2 violent gang which set the council on fire during the dark days of late Hon Bennett Aja, the immediate past chairman of the council.
