Abia State Government has reacted to fear that it’s banning commercial tricycle, popularly known as Keke, from plying the state.
Since Keke was banned in Abia’s neighbouring states, the God’s Own State has received influx of commercial tricyclists who are now running to Abia as their viable alternative. It’s causing congestion and posing other social and environmental challenges to the state.
Addressing newsmen after this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, the commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu said the Otti-led administration has no plan to ban Keke.
Kanu further said the plan was to streamline the operations of commercial vehicles and tricycles to mitigate congestion in major cities across the state.
Although he said the government has acknowledged the heavy inflow of Keke into Abia state, there was presently no genuine reason to ban Keke based purely on that.
