MOBO Awards founder, Kanya King, dies of colon cancer

Founder of MOBO awards, Kanya King, has died of colon cancer. She passed on June 3, the MOBO Organisation announced.

“It is with immeasurable sorrow that MOBO Organisation announces the passing of its Founder and CEO, Kanya King CBE, on 3 June 2026 after a courageous battle with colon cancer,” the organisation wrote.

Kanya King, a British businesswoman, founded Music for Black Origin, popularly known as MOBO awards, in 1996. She was born to a Ghanaian father and an Irish mother in Kilburn, north London, on February 12, 1969.

MOBO is a British annual music award programme.
