A Nigerian nurse Rita Anagho tried to play with the intelligence of the United States Government. Now she’s regretting it as she was caught and handsomely rewarded with a 14 years jail term.
Ms Rita Anagho is a 54-year-old woman from Edo state but she’s based in United States of America. She operated Tusa Integrated Clinic, which is her own, in San Tan Valley Arizona.
According to US Department of Justice, Ms Anagho started exploiting the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) since May 2022. Her method was to submit claims to the agency, lying that she was rendering services to substance abuse patients under American Indian Health Care Programme. But Ms Anagho worked smart, too. She had successfully connived with several sober homes which refered substance abuse patients to her clinic. She would share the proceed with them.
As a result AHCCCS paid approximately $54.9 million for the services the nurse never rendered between 2022 and 2023.
The law was soon to catch Tusa Integrated Clinic and it was subpoenaed for documents. Again, Ms Rita Anagho tried to move smartly. She allegedly bribed her former employees to create fake medical records to cover her ass.

However, the court ruling was brutal. Apart from the 14 years jail term, court also compelled her to pay $55 million in restitution. In addition, US authorities seized her how values at $7 million and another $9.5 million in her seven different accounts.
