M Attah & Co has written to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, requesting access and copies to every documents that relate to the abandoned project. The letter, which was seen by InfoWars, was written in “pursuant to the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, 2011”.

“We are solicitors to Mr. Anyigbo Emmanuel Chinwendu of Independence Layout, Enugu, Enugu State … who has instructed us to formally apply to your Honourable Ministry for access to and copies all relevant official documents, records and correspondence relating to the conception, approval, award, funding, execution, supervision, suspension, abandonment and present status of the Ivo River Dam Project, also known as the Ivo Multi-Purpose Earth Dam, reportedly situated within or serving Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State”, the letter read in part.

The Ministry’s stamp on the original shows the letter was submitted today, October 22, 2026. It is the second publicised FOI request demanding the same information from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in less than one week.

Ivo River Dam has dominated public discourse within Enugu West district since last month after unprecedented floods wrecked havoc in 14 villages in Okpanku and Mpu in Aninri local government area, Enugu State.

Properties, farms and shops worth millions of naira were destroyed, and over 300 villagers remained displaced till this day as many mud houses had caved in before the invading waters. Also, three persons, including little Children, drowned during the flood, leaving the entire council in griefs and in a mess.

The devastation has prompted hot debate, forcing present and past government representatives from the area to trade blames.

Close allies of Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, the member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River federal constituency, have accused former Senator Ike Ekweremadu, said it was “at his command” that Ivo project was abandoned.

They have not shown proofs against the former lawmaker. However, it is on record that Ivo River Dam contract was snatched from the first contractor and then re-awarded to Anbeez Services Nigeria Limited, a construction company belonging to Anayo Onwuegbu, in 2014.

Neither Hon. Onwuegbu nor the construction company has responded to the growing demands for clarifications, a fact which further perpetuates speculations that, one way or the other, there is a skeleton in someone’s cupboard. The people are now turning the Ministry of Water Resources for the answers they need.

The Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, is a good man from neighbouring Benue State. Hopefully, he would understand that lives and the destinies of thousands of poor Aninri rural dwellers are hanging on his decision and so release the documents being requested for.
