The senator representing Enugu West district raised motion over multiple erosions ravaging communities in the zone.

In a video he shared on Facebook, Senator Osita Ngwu called out the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for the obvious bias in mitigating the effects of erosion in inner communities.

‘I raised concerns over erosion ravaging our communities and the repeated delays in NEMA’s interventions, despite previous presentations and resolutions urging action,” Senator Ngwu said, added that he called President of the Senate Senator Godswill Akpabio to consider speedily translating his people’s cries “into urgent government action”.

Ngwu’s call is coming at the time when several communities in the Enugu West district are faced with recurring disasters from flood and erosion.

In Ubiekpo Abor, Udi-Ozalla and Umuavulu-Abor communities in Udi local government area, erosions have gone uncontrolled, washing away compounds and threatening lives. Also, the agrarian people of Okpuno Nsude and Amagu villages of Udi council area have to negotiate for their lives on daily basis in the face of imminent deaths posed by widening gullies.

The five local government areas which make up the constituency have suffered untold neglects from the government. In the past, government has made efforts to contain floods and erosions but abandoned them in some parts of Ugwueme, Mmaku, Mgbidi, Nkwe, Ezere, Mpu, and Okpanku communities.
