Qatar AI, robotics centres select ESUT out of 198 universities in Nigeria

Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vertex Labs in Qatar. A world-class specialist in artificial intelligence (AI) and technology, Vertex Labs is now obliged to install in full its expertise in the Coal City-owed university.
This was contained in a press statement issued, yesterday, by Dan Nwomeh, Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Peter Mbah.
InfoWars reported that ESUT Vice Chancellor Prof Aloysius Okolie led a high-profile delegation to Doha, Qatar last week. While describing the success of his team in the Asian nation, Prof Okolie expressed confidence in the institution’s ability to lead the East in applied robotic technology.
“The decision to locate the South-East Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Security at ESUT followed a rigorous merit-based assessment process conducted by TETFund,” Dr Onyekachi Egwuagu, the Director of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, was quoted as saying.
Recall that TETFund has set an ambitious goal to establishing Centres for Excellence, across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. At the bedrock of the initiative is a focused advancement through Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Coding, Machine Learning, and Cyber Security.
Out of the 198 universities in the country, ESUT passed TETFund impartial, rigorous tests and has come out as the only school selected for South-East.
Other institutions selected are Gombe State University for North-East, Federal University Lokoja for North-Central, Nigerian Defence Academy for North-West, Lagos State University for South-West, and University of Calabar for South-South.
This is yet another milestone recorded in Enugu State under Governor Peter Mbah. Since assuming office in 2023, he has taken several strange steps that’s firmly put the state in eye of the world – positively. Prof Aloysius Okolie couldn’t “overemphasize the excellent input” of Mbah’s administration in making the current ESUT transformation a reality, while he added that the service of Meeza Data Centre has already been secured for the ESUT project to kick-start immediately.
