ADC congress 2026 ends with 2 party chairmen, 3 SECs in Enugu

The ADC congress 2026 ended up throwing the party into further confusion in Enugu State.

Two fighting factions of the African Democratic Congress, each claiming to be on the side of the law, held parallel congresses yesterday. Professor Austin Akubue emerged the chairman in one. And General Chris Eze (Rtd) won the state chairmanship of the party in the other. Both were held yesterday, almost almost simultaneously.

Former Governor Okwesilieze Nwodo and Gil Nnaji, with so many other governorship and National Assembly hopefuls, are throwing their weights behind Professor Akubue. But the other faction also have stalwarts, including ace Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo.

In a party that’s also fighting to have a head at the national level, the yesterday’s congress only added to the widening divisions. The Enugu two factions are yet to hear from national leadership because there is none yet.

“Legal battles will definitely kill ADC in Enugu. I don’t see them recovering from this (parallel congresses)”, said a stakeholders from Enugu East zone who preferred anonymity.

However, Enugu is not the only state where ADC congress 2026 was parallel. Similar exercises were witnessed in Abia and other states yesterday.

One thing is sure. Despite the rising obstacles threatening to cripple ADC, the party, no doubt, still retains ardent following in Enugu.
