Hundreds of commercial Keke riders, tenants and the Akwuke natives took to the streets to protest obvious exclusion on the table of government dividends.

It’s still unclear the identities of people who organised the protests which were held on Saturday, but it appears the Akwuke leadership knew about it. They were staged from deep into the community through Garrki markets, with the aged, the children and the women taking placards to vent their displeasure.

However, it was said that reason for the mass action was to call Governor Peter Mbah’s attention to the deteriorating conditions of roads in the suburban community.

Keke drivers used that window to speak out on the hell they went through as they plied the roads on daily basis.

The issue of electricity was also one of the points of agitation. Despite its proximity to Enugu metropolis, Akwuke has suffered untold neglects in terms of zero electricity supply. For more than six years, some part of Akwuke has been cut off from light, while other parts had started counting their woes about three years after.
