Aninri defends Gov Mbah, calls ADC Obodoeze’s attacks “trash”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Aninri council area has reacted to recent smear campaign against Governor Peter Mbah.
In a news report by the Nigerian Tribune on Friday, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu, Chief Ocho Obodoeze, aimed a hit at Mbah.
His comment came just days after the Debt Management Office (DMO) released the Enugu state domestic debt. According to DMO, the debt rose from ₦82.5 billion in 2023 to ₦188.42 billion by early this year.
But Obodoeze’s press release was as trite as it was incoherent; he shot himself on the leg. Many times he mentioned “revenue growth” in it in relation to Mbah’s performances.
Reacting to the development, Hon Magnus Ede, the member representing Aninri in the State Assembly, said Obodoeze was merely speaking as it was expected of every opposition politician.
“His (Obodoeze’s) words are not to be taken seriously. Opposition politics is all about avoiding positive comments about the government.
“Even a blind man can see what His Excellency (Governor Peter Mbah) is doing in Enugu. He has completely transformed our dear state, and the change is reflecting in all the nooks and crannies. That’s too much for anyone to dispute. But there is no way you expect the opposition parties to not find fault one way or the other,” the lawmaker said.
Enugu State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has jumped since 2023. It surged from ₦26.8 billion in 2022 to all-time record high of ₦406.77 in 2025. By March 2026, Enugu State IGR was already standing at ₦130.62 billion – up enough to meet to the ambitious ₦870-billion IGR goal in 2026 fiscal year.
Obodoeze also praised Governor Peter Mbah’s Smart Green School initiative as a “bold concept”.

During 2023 gubernatorial elections, Mbah, who ran on the mantra of ‘Tomorrow is here’, promised to build Enugu State economy to a $30-billion mark in eight years. Three years after, the economy is indeed tilting towards that promise.
And the governor’s decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year doesn’t just “connect Enugu to the centre”; it has also smashed the remaining power of opposition politics in Enugu.
According to projections by seasoned political analysts, Mbah’s reelection would be “as easy as ABC”.
“But you cannot stop these mushroom political parties from expressing their frustrations,” ASN Okugo Nwanjoku, former APC Enugu West zonal youths leader told InfoWars in a phone chat. ADC, in particular, is facing series of strains in Enugu as both organisational and legal challenges threaten to sink the dying party on daily basis.
