The opposition parties in Enugu State have continued to react to the alleged “growing list of political violence” ahead of 2027 elections. The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have issued statements condemning the recent attacks at Obuofia, Akpugo and other areas.

Reacting to the development, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Chief Basil Ani, said the attacks could affect President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement he made available to the press yesterday, Chief Ani alleged that Enugu might massively vote against President Bola Tinubu’s reelection next year if the Federal Government is perceived to be shielding Mbah-led administration from the so-called political intimidation.
He cited alleged attacks on PDP members at Akpugo ward 3 on August 16 and disruption of PDP meeting at Obe ward on August 29, both in Nkanu West local government area of the state. He also cited two separate incidents of attacks during PDP ward meetings on September 12.
According to the chieftain of the opposition party, condemnation of the attacks was first attributed to Governor Peter Mbah-led administration, but has since escalated to level where traditional rulers, religious leaders as well as opposition politicians had to start pointing accusing fingers at the President.
“The allegations are grave and raise a much larger question: Can citizens freely participate in political activities in Enugu State without fear of violence or intimidation,” the statement read in part, added that Federal Government should be impartial in treating APC and other parties.
Chief Uche Nnaji, the former Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, is the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Enugu state. He defected to PDP from APC when Governor Peter Mbah defected to APC from PDP.
