FCT minister Nyesom Wike has tackled the vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

During his monthly media chat in Port Harcourt, the former Rivers State Governor said Amaechi was unfit to be vice president. To support his claims, he listed number of things the ADC flag-bearer did.
Wike, currently the most controversial Nigerian politician, also took a swipe at Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), deriding the body as a “political party”.
“Rotimi Amaechi, who wants to be Vice President today, once shut down the courts in Rivers State and caused a pregnant woman to give birth in prison,” Wike said.
Wike spoke as if the professional body explicitly endorsed his predecessor, but that’s not what happened. It merely invited him at its 66th Annual General Conference held in Port Harcourt last week.
The FCT minister who probably interpreted that to be endorsement accused the association of taking side politically, instead of maintaining institutional neutrality.
“The Nigerian Bar Association has now taken sides politically. They are now a political party,” he said.
Wike and Amaechi have been rivals for so long. The current attacks only refreshed the old wounds ahead of 2027 general elections which is certain to be one of the greatest showdown in decades. Governor Simi Fubara was practically forced into All Progressives Congress following a fallout with Wike that saw him suspended for six months.
Whether or he would side wholeheartedly with APC in the 2027 elections is not yet known. But it’s obvious that the oil-rich state is ready for a fresh air. The residents turned out in large numbers to welcome Rotimi Amaechi, the vice presidential candidate of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) in Port Harcourt earlier today.
