More than ever, the road to National Assembly in 2027 is strewn with thorns for Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, the member representing Aninri/Awgu Oji River federal constituency. But then, nothing good comes easy.

After spending more than three years in the seat, many would have expected an easy ride to re-election for the lawmaker. But that’s not the case. The House of Representatives candidates of African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Accord Party (A), Hon. Chinedu Onyeagba (a.k.a Omex Global) and Comr. Franklin Emmanuel (Wizard) are out to undo Onwuegbu, giving him adequate sleepless nights with their relentless campaigns.

Earlier this week, Omex revived the debate for accountability over Ivo River Dam Project and Mgbowo Dam, trying to frame Onwuegbu as a villain. He called for the lawmaker’s construction company Anbeez Services Nigeria Limited to respond the public calls for “transparency”, while accusing him of not doing enough to complete the projects years after they were awarded to his company.

Local blogs have since picked the message and blasted it all over the world.

Ivo River Dam project was awarded since 2014, but it has remained abandoned despite over ₦7 billion being reportedly earmarked for its completion. The embarrassment was once more highlighted three weeks ago when unprecedented flood sacked nearly the entire populace of Okpanku and Mpu communities in Aninri local government area, Enugu State. Two people were drown, and many mud houses collapsed, leaving the agrarian village homeless and in a deep mess.

Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu’s handlers, having seen the obvious scandal, are already shifting blames to former Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Meanwhile, Omex is pressing for “justice for people of Okpanku”, insisting that there is no one else but Anayo Onwuegbu who is to blame for the deaths and devastations in the Aninri communities.

On his part, the candidate of Accord Party, Franklin Emmanuel, is driving home the same point. The former President of ESUT’s Students Union Government (SUG) has been vocal in condemning what he described as Onwuegbu’s “lazy representation.”
