The elders of Agbada Nenwe in Aninri local government area, Enugu State are faced with very difficult decision after they banished a minor for getting pregnant for his father. In a circulating video clip, Nenwe residents had come out in their numbers and completed the rituals before mandating the little girl and his father never to return to their land.
InfoWars could not independently verify what really transpired. But according to sources, the man had married a woman who already bore children in her father’s house. He married her and took the children – including the pregnant teen – to claim them.
The information leaked. Then, the people of Nenwe, who still consider incest a dangerous taboo against their land, came out, took hold of the two and banished them. According to the people, including an elderly man, who spoke before the two were released to leave the town, their sin represented sacrilege the like of which Nenwe tradition has no other punishment than banishment.
However, some concerned influencers including the SSA to APC National Chairman on Youth Mobilization, Miss Juliet Obinta, called for thorough investigation. Later, the girl was found and she told the sordid story.
It happened that her step father forced himself on her. In a video shared on Nenwe TV Facebook page, she said he ambushed her with dagger and threatened to stab her to death if she refused him s3x at the spot. She couldn’t do much but had managed to alert her grandmother with shout. Her grandmother was in the know of the incident but warned her not to let other “ears” heard about it.
This has brought to sharp focus the conflicting points between some village traditions and the extant laws. Already, some individuals are calling for justice for the girl child, saying the act wasn’t incest but akin to rape.
“If I’m a lawyer, I’ll sue every adult in that video”, Miss Obinta said, added that “they were all protecting tradition and forgot to be sensible”.
Enugu State Commissioner for Gender Affairs, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Valentina Enih, has not be duly informed. And the wife of Aninri Local Government chairman has not intervened at the time of filing this report.
Commissioner Valentina Enih is a no-nonsense woman. She has shown no mercy in the past in treating matters which has to do with molestation and child abuse. In January, when one 42-year-old man from Mburubu rapes a 13-year-old girl, Mrs Enih saw he was matched to prison.
She is running ‘Situation Room for GBV Data Collection’ in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and GIZ, the initiative she uses to track reports of sexual violence across the state.
Sooner or later she would get to know about the Nenwe incident. And if it’s finally established as a case of rape, that man is cooked. But will she also come against the elders and people of Nenwe who had earlier banished the victim and the penetrator?
