A four-storey building under construction has collapsed at Umuoji street in Independent Layout, in Enugu metropolis.
The ugly incident occurred yesterday around 6 o’clock in the morning. One of the six construction workers who had been sleeping in the building was found death, buried in the rubbles, while four sustained varying degrees of injuries and are being treated at the Enugu State Teaching Hospital. One had reportedly travelled before the incident.

According eyewitnesses, the impact of the fall shook the entire neighbourhood, bringing passers-by to a standstill and hundreds of neighbours to the scene.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigerian Red Cross Society, Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority and the Police were all involved in the rescue operation, with residents helping.
At the time of filing this report, the causes of the sudden collapse are yet to be determined while it yet appeared impossible to determine the number of causality.
The scene is a stone throw from Cubana restaurant at Rangers Avenue, a haven of night s3x workers. Due to the huge debris still unmoved, there as concerns that remains of more casualties may still be buried deep in the rubbles.
