The Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Senator Ikeje Asogwa, has called for stronger collaboration between political leaders and the media to promote the development and unlock the potentials of the Nsukka zone.

Represented by one of his aides, Hon. Oscar Ayogu, Asogwa made the call at the annual convention and lecture of the Nsukka Journalists Forum, held at Jerry Mariot Hotel, Nsukka.

The event, which brought together journalists from across the Nsukka zone, had the theme: “Unlocking Nsukka’s Potentials: The Imperative of Political Leadership, Strategic Investment and Media Engagement for Inclusive and Sustainable Development.”

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Mathias O. Omeh, KSM, PhD, commended the Chairman of the Nsukka Journalists Forum, Mr. Benson Whyte Ezugwu, for organising the programme.

Omeh also appreciated Senator Asogwa for being represented at the event and stressed the need for the people of Nsukka to unite and think beyond conventional approaches in addressing the challenges confronting the zone.

He urged political leaders, professionals and other stakeholders to work together to unlock the economic, social and human capital potentials of Nsukka.
Delivering the lecture, the guest speaker, Prof. Augustine Akubue, examined the enormous potentials of the Nsukka zone and the challenges hindering their full realisation.
Akubue proffered possible solutions, calling for renewed consciousness among the people of Nsukka and collective efforts to drive sustainable development across the zone.

Representing Senator Asogwa, Ayogu thanked the Nsukka Journalists Forum for inviting the senator to the convention and commended the organisers for creating a platform to discuss issues affecting the development of the zone. He emphasised the critical role of the media in shaping Nsukka’s identity and development agenda.

“The media and journalists have a very important role to play in our contemporary society. We must speak for ourselves as Nsukka people and tell the world who we are. Nobody can tell our story better than us,” Ayogu said.

He assured the forum that Senator Asogwa would receive and consider the issues raised at the convention, explaining that the senator could not attend personally due to other critical engagements.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Senior Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor on Tourism, Hon. Steve Odo; the Executive Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, who was represented by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Onyeji Kingsley; Hon. Ogbonnaya Idike, who represented the Head of Service of Enugu State; and Sir Engr. Ucheonwu Prince-Henry Hart, among other dignitaries and award recipients.
