There are a lot of things Nigerians need to fully understand about politicians as 2027 elections draw nearer. One of those things is that these people aren’t enemies.
Barely a week after he defeated his closer contender, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, Governor Ademola Adeleke visited President Bola Tinubu in Aso Rock earlier today. It was the first face-to-face meeting between the two after Adeleke won his reelection on August 15. He arrived Presidential Villa, accompanied by National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Other Yoruba dignitaries later joined them.
Recall that President Tinubu personally congratulated Adeleke following his victory. On his part, Governor Adeleke had pledged to support Tinubu’s presidential reelection bid in 2027.
Expectedly, this had led to speculation that Adeleke had deal with the president to let him win the governorship even though he ran under opposition Accord Party. Adeleke denied that. Speaking on Channels TV, he clarified that his decision to support Tinubu was born out of their shared ethnic identity.
“My support is just based on Mr President being a Yoruba man and his projects. And I believe that all the federal roads that he has started, I want to encourage him not to forget Osun too”, Adeleke said.
He added that “since a Yoruba man has won for the first time, maybe I will give him another chance to develop his reforms,” he added.
